Philanthropy

Mark Erjavec’s philanthropic work has focused on building sustainable community infrastructure rather than one-off donations. In the mid-2010s, while working in Eastern Europe, he helped launch the Kyiv Parks Foundation, an initiative aimed at restoring and maintaining public spaces in Ukraine’s capital through transparent public-private partnerships. The project established an international board and pledged $100 million over ten years to redesign and preserve Kyiv’s parks, emphasizing accessibility for families and accountability in long-term maintenance. For Erjavec, public space represented more than aesthetics—it was a framework for civic trust and renewal. Even after the initiative was paused due to global disruptions, the model and documentation remained intact, reflecting his core belief that philanthropy should leave behind systems that endure, not slogans that fade.
